About SmartStore SmartStore architecture overview. Indexer An indexer is a splunk instance, a separate machine - an index is a structure to store data on those indexers. The cluster replicates data on a bucket-by-bucket basis. See "Implement search affinity in a multisite indexer cluster. Searchable copies also contain the index files.

S;lunk ensure that exactly one copy of each bucket participates in a search, one searchable copy of each bucket in the cluster is designated as primary.
For information on the metrics format, see the Metrics manual. See Rebalance the indexer cluster primary buckets. Events indexes impose minimal structure and can accommodate any type of data, including metrics data. Add indexers with existing data to a cluster.
Was this documentation topic helpful? Install a cluster of indexers If data availability, data fidelity, and data recovery splink key issues for your deployment, then you should consider deploying an indexer cluster, rather than a series of individual indexers.
Configure the indexer cluster. In distributed search, search heads send search requests to indexers and then merge the results back to the user.
The second part of this manual, starting with the topic About indexer clusters and index replicationidnexer relevant only for clusters. In a larger, distributed deploymenthowever, the functions of data input and search management are allocated to other Splunk Enterprise components. See "How the indexer stores indexes"along with the other topics in the current manual that describe managing indexes.
Default set of indexes Splunk Enterprise comes with a number of preconfigured indexes, including: See "About search head clustering" in the Distributed Search manual. An indexer cluster is a group of Splunk Enterprise nodes that, working in concert, provide a redundant indexing and searching capability.
Managing Indexers and Clusters of Indexers
For multisite clusters, you must also take into account the search head and peer node requirements of each site, as determined by your search affinity and disaster recovery needs. Related Answers Splunm to install an indexer and search head? Here is a diagram of a basic, single-site indexer cluster, containing three peer nodes and supporting a replication factor of 3: The replication factor is the number idexer copies of raw data that the cluster maintains.

Replication factor and node failure If there are less peer nodes remaining than the number specified by the replication factor, the cluster will not be able to replace the 20 missing copies.

For most ineexer, it is recommended that you use forwarders indexerr get data into the cluster. Periodically, the search head gets a list of active search peers from the master.
